HAPPY WINTER its cold again. Today its suppose to be -53 with wind chill, but its not its only -18. Time to go sun bathing. We decided to start today with some service, by snow blowing a less active couples drive way. It was only -23 then and by the time we were done we our faces and our scarves and our hats and our jackets were all covered in frost. Then Brother Simons tried to throw Elder Allen in the snow bank but Elder Allen threw him in instead. Some how I ended up in the snow bank and by the time everyone stopped moving all three of us were in the snow bank laughing and trying to get our I really wish I would have took picture.
Speaking of pictures I got a new camera from Mom and Dad so look for some pictures in the attachments. Some of this weeks highlights would have to be that we had a really awesome lesson with one of our really cool investigators named Nicholas this week. Brother Simons was with us when we taught him about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he shared some cool stories with him. Here's what happened the rest of the week
Monday we went bowling at Jacks House, and got to talk with Tony one of the managers there who is also one of our investigators. We didn't get to teach him much because he was working but we scheduled a time to meet with him this week. We were about to pay for our games when he told us that he would cover them. I didn't feel right about letting him pay for the whole thing so I convinced him to let me pay for the shoes. Then we went home to get ready to teach some people we had scheduled to teach that evening. But most of them fell through so we went to teach the Kerr family with their home teachers. When the day was finally over we did our nightly planning and had a conference call with our district to prepare us for district meeting on Wednesday.
Nothing to notable happened Tuesday We spent most of our time trying finding people and talking with less actives.
Wednesday we had our district meeting which was awesome. This district meeting was in Alexandria Minnesota. We talked a lot about asking inspired questions and teaching people not lessons. The main message I got our of it came from on of the district videos we watched. One of the speakers said when we listen with love then the Holly Ghost will reveal the truth of our words to those we teach. I learned that It is only through the Holly Ghost that the truth of what we teach can be learned and that if we are truly listening with love to the concerns of those we teach we need not worry about what to say. Because the Holly Ghost will give us the words we need in the very hour.
I put this to practice on Thursday when we taught Nicholas. Nic is a very bright young man who thinks more deeply about things that any person I have ever met in my entire life. The cool thing is, is that the things we have taught him have made sense to him. The sad thing is that he often looks too deep into things that are explainable and unimportant. But his seed of faith is still growing and Brother Simons was able to help him understand some very key and basic doctrines. We left that night feeling the spirit, it was so awesome.
Friday was the longest day I have had on my mission. After a really long weekly planing session we went to help a family in the ward move. I thought it would be a piece of cake because I have moved many times and have helped people move. Boy was I ever wrong. All I have to say is that its amazing how much useless stuff accumulates after twenty five years of living in the same house. So if any of you are thinking about moving please get ride of the things you don't need, and keep all of the things you do need like food storage and furniture and beds, and kitchen supplies, etc.
Saturday was much like Tuesday.
Sunday was awesome, I got to sing in the ward choir, and one of the new families in our ward the Brooks gave great talks. They all talked about the family and how awesome families are it was so cool. I gained a new appreciation for Mosiah 3:7 you'll have to read it because I am running our of time to write.
I love you all and hope things are going well. Be safe in all you do and remember to pray always.
Sincerely
Elder Hurd
